I love that Oprah refers to the divine as “that which we call GOD…” How can language or a name encompass the divine? The interesting thing about early Jewish history is that the word YHVH (Yahweh) known as the name of God was considered literally unspeakable. This unspeakability has long been recognized and yet it goes even deeper. Formally, the word was not aspoken at all but breathed. The one thing we do every moment of our lives is speak the name of God. This makes it our first and last word as we enter and leave this world. There is no Islamic, Christian or Jewish way of breathing. There is no American, African or Asian way of breathing. There is no rich or poor way of breathing. God is as available and as accessible as the very thing we do constantly – breathe.

Life is always changing. God is always moving, even in the dark. The only thing that is constant is His Presence within us, breathing for us. The chinese symbol for crisis means both danger and opportunity.It suggests that we must face danger, not avoid it to grow. Night follows day and one season follows another. Nothing remains itself.
Each prepares the path for its opposite.
To be ready for wholeness, first be fragmented.
To be ready for rightness, first be wronged.
To be ready for fullness, first be empty.
To be ready for renewal, first be worn out.

In God’s Reign, EVERYTHING BELONGS…even the broken and poor parts.
To be ready for success, first fail.
To be ready for doubt, first be certain.

The Beatitudes in Matthew proclaim the necessity of suffering to gain new life.
